Consolidation of Parts Diagrams
Black and Decker needed to consolidate all the parts diagrams for
their commercial and residential lines of construction tools and make
it available over the web. There were over 70,000 such diagrams
created with various tools over two decades and spread over various
systems. We studied and analyzed the problem and designed a solution
based on our proprietary data transformation technology. The solution
enabled us to collect and convert the diagram files to Adobe pdf
format. Over 99% of the files were converted successfully faithfully
preserving the details of each diagram. This allowed our clients to
deploy their web-based access to these diagrams for their customers.

Interoperability of CAD tools
The auto industry uses a variety of software tools to generate auto
parts diagrams and technical details of the parts. The big auto makers
need to be able to share these data with thousands of small and medium
sized vendors who may use different tool sets. We conducted a study of
the interoperability problem for NIST. We delivered a report with a
review of current practices of tools usage and proposed a solution
based on distributed data transformation techniques that lets each
party to use their own favorite CAD tools and yet allow data
exchange. We also built a small prototype as a proof of concept. The
prototype is based on a patented peer-to-peer technology and
scheduling algorithms.

Logistics Operation Simulation
A large European Telecom company internally developed a software
application to optimize field deployment of engineers to reduce
operational cost and increase customer satisfaction. A spin-off
company resulted (Vidus Inc) that developed and marketeted this
product to other sectors like energy, utilities, etc. However, they
soon discovered that it was hard for the customers to understand the
value proposition behind their very sophisticated, complex and costly
software. We were engaged to design and prototype a simulator that
shows the customers the inefficiencies in their existing operations
and reveal the advantages of the new technology. A web-based simulator
has been built and delivered to the customer that they used to
demonstrate to their clients the advantages of their sophistcated
solution. We employed techniques drawn from discrete-event simulation,
temporal modeling, queuing theory, graph theory and logistics to
develop this solution.

Applying Natural Language techniques in Homeland Security
In collaboration with researchers at the Software Engineering
Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, we conducted an analysis of
public domain intelligence data.

Coword Analysis in Bio-Informatics
In collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and CMU we are applying Natural Language techniques to analyze the publications database of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We are applying coword analysis to generate maps of terms and their strength of relationships using VisualIndex. The idea is to map the terms in a domain of discourse such ASHG (American Society of Human Genetics) to discover trends in concepts and methods over a period of time and create visual maps of relationship between terminology. The eventual target is to be able to use these term maps to develop ontologies for a particular domain. In this project, we are using our expertise in natural language tools, co-word, co-citation and co-author analysis, and graph clustering techniques to visually index the terms in a corpus of documents.

Network Analysis of Financial and Legal Actors
Elefon has partnered with a startup company that is developing a
software for analyzing relationships between various actors in the
financial and legal sectors.

Modeling and Simulation
We are working with the Center for the Study of Science, Technology, and Policy (CSTEP) in Bangalore, India to develop an overall strategy for modeling and simulation in infrastructure such as traffic, water supply, and energy distribution by providing tools, services, and analysis.
